Hard Goods Department Head (full-time)
Reporting to the General Manager, the Hard Goods Department Head is responsible for ensuring the department reaches sales goals, maintains adequate staffing, and practices exemplary customer service. The Hard Goods Department Head will supervise day-to-day activity in a rapidly growing sales department.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversees the day-to-day flow of the department
- Organizes and oversees scheduling within the department
- Motivates employees through positive communication and incentives
- Maintains positive relationships with employees and customer base while setting the example of customer service
- Receive and display new inventory
- Operate heavy machinery to load bulk much/soil and move large products
- Provide product recommendations to customers that meet their needs
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Required Skills & Abilities
- Able to operate heavy machinery, including a forklift and skid steer, or have the willingness to learn
- Willingness to quickly learn about plant diseases, weeds, fertilizers, and other plant care topics (candidates with previous plant care knowledge will be given priority)
- Excellent communication skills with customers and employees
- Excellent leadership and management skills
- Able to work independently and also be a team player
- Flexibility in all areas, including but not limited to work schedule, duties and responsibilities, extreme weather conditions, etc.
Education & Experience Requirements
- At least one year of management experience
- At least two years of retail experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift, pull, and push at least 70 lbs
- Able to sit or stand for an extended period of time
- Able to work in all types of weather
Greenhouse Department Head (full-time)
Reporting to the General Manager, the Greenhouse Department Head is responsible for ensuring the department reaches sales goals, maintains adequate staffing, and practices exemplary customer service. The Greenhouse Department Head will supervise day-to-day activity in a rapidly growing sales department.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversees the day-to-day flow of the department

- Maintains positive relationships with employees and customer base while setting the example of customer service

- Willingness to quickly learn about annuals, vegetable plants, their care, and other relevant topics

- Excellent leadership and management skills

- Flexibility in all areas, including but not limited to work schedule, duties and responsibilities, extreme weather conditions, etc.

Hard Goods - Team Lead (full-time)
Reporting to the department head, Team Leads are responsible for supporting the department head in the day-to-day activities in the department.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with daily tasks
- Ensure the department’s sales associates are working efficiently
- Learning the department’s daily tasks to ensure customers are receiving excellent service and the department’s work list is being completed
- Assist department head with ordering new merchandise
- If in an outside environment, assist with watering the plant inventory
- Attend management meetings
- Help solve employee problems/disagreements amongst employees in the department
- Maintain intermediate to advanced knowledge of items being sold in the department, and maintain a basic knowledge of items being sold in other departments
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Skills & Abilities
- Excellent communication skills with customers and employees
- Able to lead a team of two to five members effectively
- Able to work independently and also be a team player
- Basic knowledge of computers, fax machines, copier/printer, and email, and the willingness and ability to quickly learn unfamiliar technology
- Flexibility in all areas, including but not limited to work schedule, duties and responsibilities, extreme weather conditions, etc.
Education & Experience Requirements
- Previous experience as a sale associate preferably in a garden center, plant nursery, or gift shop
- If working in an outside department, one must be able to maintain at least an intermediate knowledge of the department’s plants and their care
- Able to read an order confirmation and vendor invoice for the accuracy of the product received
- High school diploma or equivalent
Physical Requirements
- Able to lift, pull, and push at least 50 lbs
- Able to stand and walk for an extended period of time
- Able to bend, squat, and reach overhead
- Tolerant of hot and cold temperatures
