Cashier, Full Charge Bookkeeper, Receiving Assistant, Market Department Head

 

Cashier
  • Reporting to the General Manager, cashiers are responsible for operating a point-of-sale register to process transactions and providing excellent customer service.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Operate a point-of-sale cash register to process sales and returns
    • Process store credits
    • Set up new customer loyalty accounts
    • Provide excellent customer service
    • Other duties as assigned

    Required Skills & Abilities

    • Excellent computer skills
    • Excellent communication skills with customers and other employees
    • Able to count money and make change, having a good knowledge of basic mathematics
    • Able to type alphanumeric characters accurately
    • Able to work independently and also be a team player

    Flexible in all areas, including but not limited to: work schedule, duties and responsibilities, extreme weather

     

    Education & Experience Requirements

    • Previous cashier/customer service experience preferred but not required

    Physical Requirements

    • Able to lift, pull, push at least 50 lbs
    • Able to sit or stand for an extended period of time
    • Able to work in all types of weather conditions, etc.

 

RECEIVING ASSISTANT

Job Description:

  • We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Receiving Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate inventory management by recording incoming merchandise into our point-of-sale (POS) system. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Accurately receive and verify all incoming shipments
  • Enter received products into the POS system in a timely and accurate manner
  • Maintain up-to-date and organized records of received inventory
  • Assist in regular inventory counts and cycle counts to ensure stock accuracy
  • Communicate with vendors and internal teams to resolve receiving issues or discrepancies
  • Collaborate with Martin’s staff to ensure efficient flow of goods. 

Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
MARKET DEPARTMENT HEAD

Reporting to the General Manager, the Market Department Head is responsible for ensuring The Market reaches sales goals, maintains adequate staffing, and practices exemplary customer service. The Market Department Head will supervise day-to-day activity in a rapidly growing sales department. They will also be responsible for purchasing quality merchandise for the department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day flow of the department
  • Organize and oversee scheduling within the department
  • Maintain positive relationships with employees and the customer base while setting the example of customer service
  • Operate a point-of-sale cash register to process sales and returns
  • Receive new merchandise and display it in an attractive and easy-to-shop manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication skills with customers and employees
  • Excellent leadership and management skills
  • Able to work independently and also be a team player
  • Flexibility in all areas, including but not limited to: work schedule, duties and responsibilities, extreme weather conditions, etc.
  • Able to count money and make change, having a good knowledge of basic mathematics
  • Able to type alphanumeric characters accurately
  • Know market trends and know when seasonal merchandise needs to be put on the sales floor
  • Able to manage a spending budget

Education & Experience Requirements

  • At least two years of retail experience
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Previous experience with point-of-sale systems
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift, pull, push at least 50 lbs
  • Able to stand for an extended period of time
Sales associate

Sales associates ensure a positive shopping experience for our customers. They are responsible for assisting customers as they shop and for maintaining their assigned department.

Please see our separate job description for sales associates in the Hard Goods Department if interested, and the position is available. Sales associates report to the head of their assigned department.

This is currently a seasonal position, but there is the potential for longer-term employment.

  • Assist customers in a positive and friendly manner in person or over the phone
  • Unload new inventory and help display products in an attractive and easy-to-shop manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year in a nursery setting is preferred

  • Able to lift, pull, and push at least 50-75 lbs
  • Able to stand for an extended period
  • Able to work in all types of weather
