Also known as the African Milk Tree due to the milky sap contained in the stems, Candelabra Cactus, Abyssinian Euphorbia, Cathedral Cactus, and Friendship Cactus. Euphorbia trigona is its botanical name. This plant is both a succulent and a cactus, but should be mostly cared for as a succulent. Thorns will grow in between the ridges on the ends of the leaves, and from this a new leaf will usually grow. From West Africa, these beautiful plants are often used in many architectural designs. They have a slow growth rate, reaching 7-9 feet outdoors, and 2-4 feet indoors. Prefers bright light, but not direct sun, for it can burn the plant. Keep the soil well draining and moist, but not wet. Protect your eyes and mouth when handling, due to the white milky sap can cause skin irritation as well as be poisonous to humans and animals.
