Lathyrus odoratus
A beautiful mix of majestic colors, the Royal series has larger flowers than most sweet pea varieties, and heat resistance for a longer blooming period. Grow sweet peas on a trellis, fence, or porch rail to call in the pollinators. Bring the cut flowers indoors to sweeten the house with their perfume and old-fashioned charm. Vines grow up to 5′-6′ long and produce flowers that bloom from spring to summer. Prefers full to partial sun exposure.
Outdoors: In cold climates, sow 4-6 weeks before your average last frost date, or as soon as the soil can be worked. In mild climates, sow in late fall to early winter for spring bloom. Ideal temperature is 55°–65°F.
Indoors: Sow 4-6 weeks before your average last frost date. Sow in biodegradable pots and grow in cool conditions (55°F-65°F).
What is an heirloom seed?
An heirloom variety is one that has been passed down from generation to generation. Generally, the variety must have been around for at least 50 years. They are open-pollinated, which means they have been exposed to natural pollination methods like insects or winds. They aren’t hybrids or genetically modified.
