This white turnip with a purplish tip has subsisted world populations for thousands of years and can be eaten fresh, roasted, or mashed like potatoes. Roots grow up to 2″-6″ in diameter; the green grow up to 14″-22″ tall with 3″-5″ wide leaf blades. Turnips store particularly well. Outdoors: Sow 2-4 weeks before your average last frost date, and when soil temperatures reach 50°F, ideally 65°–80°F.
For Successive Sowings: Sow every 2 weeks up to 8-10 weeks before your average first fall frost date. In mild climates, sow in fall for cool–season harvest.
Indoors: Not recommended, as roots are sensitive to disturbance.
